This year, our team, Disco Dave’s Jägerbombers, is once again lacing up for the Walk for Hope, raising funds for the Foundation of Hope to support mental illness research and treatment. We walk in memory of our beloved David Johansson, lovingly known as Disco Dave. Dave was the kind of person who lit up every room he walked into. A loving son, devoted brother, proud uncle, and fiercely loyal friend, Dave was known for his infectious smile and ability to make anyone laugh. He loved deeply. He lived loudly. He was joy in motion. But, on October 15, 2011, Dave took his own life. We walk because we never want anyone else to feel that alone. We walk because mental illness touches so many yet still hides in silence. We walk because there is HOPE. Every dollar raised helps fund critical research through the Foundation of Hope—research that can save lives, offer support, and create real change for those battling mental illness. Please consider donating in Dave’s memory and helping us carry his legacy forward. Let’s spread this message together: DON’T GIVE UP.
Why am I fundraising?
Mental illness touches 1 in 5 adults, which means it affects all of us, either directly or through people we love. That’s why this cause is so important to me.
Every dollar raised goes directly to groundbreaking research at UNC, helping to improve lives and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.
